Scientific floras can be reliable sources for some trait data in a system with poor coverage in global trait databases

چکیده

Aim Trait-based approaches are increasingly important in ecology and biogeography, but progress is often hampered by the availability of high-quality quantitative trait data collected field. Alternative sources information include scientific floras taxonomic monographs. Here we test reliability usefulness acquired from against values measured field, those TRY, most comprehensive global plant database. Location Tenerife La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. Methods We leaf area specific (SLA) field for 451 native vascular species compared them with equivalent digitised recent guide Canarian flora, sourced TRY. regressed field-measured traits their equivalents estimated literature used regression models one island to predict on other island. Results For area, linear showed good agreement between flora (r2 = 0.86). These were spatially transferable across islands. In contrast, SLA found a weak relationship best estimates 0.11). Insufficient available TRY database our study calculate correlations sources. Conclusions Scientific can act as useful some not others, whilst contains many traits, incomplete coverage region, oceanic islands general.

Evaluation of tomato genotypes and identification of a reliable trait for tolerance to salt stress

structure. So, it is possible to achieve the salinity-tolerant genotype in plants through creating changes in the genetic structure and breeding activities. Tomato is in the group of plants sensitive to salinity stress. Distinct studies have been explained different indicators for tolerance to salt stress in tomato. Identifying a reliable indicator in the early stages of plant growth under salt...

Data Sources for Trait Databases: Comparing the Phenomic Content of Monographs and Evolutionary Matrices

Databases of organismal traits that aggregate information from one or multiple sources can be leveraged for large-scale analyses in biology. Yet the differences among these data streams and how well they capture trait diversity have never been explored. We present the first analysis of the differences between phenotypes captured in free text of descriptive publications ('monographs') and those ...

FLOPO - An Ontology for the Integration of Trait Data from Digitized Floras and Plant Image Collections

Knowledge about organismic traits is useful for many different studies in environmental sciences. For example, traits can be used to study the functional diversity of plant communities and competition between species. Furthermore traits of underutilized plants are an important resource for agricultural usage and phytomedical applications. There are large biodiversity data collections which are ...

Unveiling the genetic loci for a panicle developmental trait using genome-wide association study in rice

Panicle size has a high correlation with grain yield in rice. There is a bottleneck to identify the additional quantitative trait loci (QTL) for panicle size due to the conventional traits used for QTL mapping. To identify more genetic loci for panicle size, a panicle developmental trait (LNTB, the length from panicle neck-knot to the first primary branch in the rachis) related to panicle size ...
